To commemorate the 30th anniversary of its support for contemporary Arab artists, Darat al-Funun invited artists to pause and reflect, to reimagine our world, and to reinvent their narrative following the challenge set by the late poet Mahmoud Darwish: “Truth is black, write over it with a mirage’s light”. The publication’s first volume documents exhibitions and events held in 2018, presenting encounters between artists and their place in the world today. The second presents the findings of a public colloquium held in Amman in summer 2018, expanding knowledge about Arab art, challenging paradigms, and calling for a reassessment of conventional narratives about the region.
